A small town and fishing centre, Briatico is situated on the foot of ‘Monte Poro’ – Mount Poro – and 1km in land from the sea. The old Briatico was destroyed by an earthquake in 1783, with ruins of the old village and castle of Ferdinando Bisbal still visible, and are easily accessible.

Along the coast can be found the ruins of 2 towers and by the river – ‘la fumara’ - there are Imperial Greek and Roman cemeteries, so called the “Grotte delle Fate” Cave of Fairies. Other interesting areas to be visited include: le Torri di guardia “La Rocchetta”, “Sant’Irene”. Areas of Archaeology include: “Punta Safò”, “Briatico Vecchia”– old Briatico, and il Mulino della “Rocchetta”– an old mill.
