Spiaggia Tropea
A beautiful historic city with some of the most beautiful churches in Calabria visited by thousands of tourists each year. All the surrounding beaches are of fine white sand and the sea is turquoise blue in colour, confirming the belief that Tropea is the favourite place on the coast of the ancient gods.

The city stands 50 metres above sea level and actually sits on a natural rock formation. The city centre dates back to the 17th century with cobbled narrow streets and original buildings. Many of the narrow streets offer a variety of café, bars, restaurants and shops in addition to the main city square and ‘corso’ high street.

The 11th century Romanesque cathedral is the most appreciated of all Tropea’s buildings. It retains all the marks of successive cultures and ages during and after the Norman rule
in the region. The cathedral has been added to throughout its life and enjoyed a complete restoration in the 1950’s making it a truly impressive site.
In the centre of the city there are many noble buildings of ‘Patrizia’ origin, the Church of San Dimitrio, and the Museum of Art containing many Calabrian pieces, with some directly involved with the city of Tropea.
The night of San Lorenzo is celebrated, where at night there is gathering of people and local and Calabrian poetry is read.
The city also benefits from numerous religious and traditional festivals, and a diverse cultural influence from exhibitions and events.
